What It Is
The Rainbow Fizz Challenge invites learners to mix safe, everyday acids and alkalis to create colourful chemical reactions.
They will:
- Plan a fair test using clear steps.
- Try different colour combinations and acid/base pairings.
- Record fizz strength, colour changes and timing.
- Reflect on what affected their results.
- Ask “What if I tried…?” and go again.
It’s hands-on, open-ended and designed to build scientific thinking.
Why It Works
Instead of rushing through a fun moment, learners slow down and investigate:
- What caused the biggest fizz?
- Did they control all variables?
- How could the method be improved?
Learners are noticing, questioning and adapting.
What You Get in the kit:
🧪 10-slide lesson presentation – with quiz, prompts, method steps and vocabulary

Why It Matters
This challenge gives learners the space to:
- Think independently
- Improve their method based on results
- Build proper chemistry vocabulary in context
- Celebrate different outcomes — not just the “right” ones
