The question packs give pupils a writing frame first, then the same question unaided, because most pupils can list the steps and still lose the marks on the extended response.

Where pupils lose the marks
A pupil can recite the method for the osmosis practical and still come away with two marks out of six. The content is not the problem. The writing is.
The six-mark packs deal with that directly. Each question comes twice. The first time the pupil gets a writing frame that tells them what to put in each paragraph and in what order. The second time they answer the same style of question with nothing to lean on.
