The Bee Project Year 3 Science Booklet | KS2 Bees, Pollination, Habitats, Ecosystems | Cross-Curricular STEM
Year 3 The Bee Project booklet. KS2 Science: bees, pollination, life cycle, habitats, food chains, why bees matter to the ecosystem. UK national curriculum.
The Bee Project is a Year 3 cross-curricular booklet that uses bees as the lens for teaching pollination, habitats, food chains, and the bigger ecology story of why pollinators matter. It links directly to the Plants unit (pollination of flowering plants) and previews ecology vocabulary that learners will meet again in Year 4 Living Things and Year 6 Living Things. Particularly strong for whole-school summer projects, eco-club work, and homeschool topic weeks.
What's inside:
- Bee anatomy: head, thorax, abdomen, wings, legs, antennae, proboscis — labelled diagrams
- The life cycle of a honeybee: egg, larva, pupa, adult — complete metamorphosis at Year 3 level
- Roles in the hive: queen, workers, drones; division of labour
- Pollination: how bees move pollen from flower to flower, what happens when pollen reaches the stigma, the link to seed formation in plants
- Habitats: where wild and honey bees live, how habitats are changing, what learners can do to help (pollinator gardens, wildflower patches)
- Food chains: bees as a key link in food chains, what depends on bees, why declining bee populations matter
- Short writing prompts and reflection activities tying the science to action
UK National Curriculum reference: Year 3 Science, links to Plants (pollination, life cycle of a flowering plant) and to the Year 4 Living Things and Habitats foundation. Cross-curricular links to Year 3 Geography (habitats) and PSHE (caring for the environment).
Who it's for: Year 3 class teachers running a summer project or eco-week, primary science leads, eco-school coordinators, primary tutors, parents looking for a topic-week pack at home, and homeschool families on the UK national curriculum.
