AQA GCSE Combined Science Physics P3 Particle Model of Matter | 5 Lesson Presentations and Topic Test
AQA GCSE Combined Science Physics P3 Particle Model of Matter: 5 lessons ready to teach, with a topic test
This is the Combined Science Trilogy version of P3 Particle Model of Matter, matched to the AQA 8464 specification. You get 4 teaching lessons and the 1 required practical as full lessons, all planned and ready to teach in editable PowerPoint.
What your classes work through
- Density and changes of state. Pupils find the mass of liquid from its density and volume, then divide by the larger frozen volume to get the solid's density.
- Internal energy of a system. Pupils work out how fast the water warms over the first 80 s and link the flat part of the graph to a change of state.
- Specific heat capacity and latent heat. Pupils link the energy supplied to melting ice with overcoming forces between particles, which is why the thermometer stays at 0 °C.
- Particle motion in gases. Pupils draw lines from three gas statements, including heating in a sealed rigid container, to meanings such as a rise in pressure.
The 1 required practical
- RP17 Density. Pupils divide 120 g by 150 cm³ to find the density of the wood and compare it with water to decide if it floats.
Who it is for
Use it to teach P3 Particle Model of Matter for GCSE Combined Science Trilogy, covering density, changes of state, internal energy, specific heat capacity, latent heat and gas pressure. It also works for Combined Science Physics revision in Year 10 and Year 11 and includes the density required practical.
How each lesson runs
Each P3 Particle Model of Matter lesson starts with a Do Now that recalls earlier learning, with the answers on the next slide. It then moves through I Do, We Do and You Do, with a model answer after each task. It finishes with the AQA-style question listed above, its mark scheme and an exit ticket. A specification slide names the AQA points the lesson covers, so you can check it against your scheme of work.
Topic test
The P3 Particle Model of Matter topic test covers the whole unit with AQA-style questions and comes with its mark scheme, both in Word and PDF.
