AQA GCSE Combined Science Physics P1 Energy | 6 Lesson Presentations and Topic Test
AQA GCSE Combined Science Physics P1 Energy: 6 lessons ready to teach, with a topic test
This is the Combined Science Trilogy version of P1 Energy, matched to the AQA 8464 specification. You get 5 teaching lessons and the 1 required practical as full lessons, all planned and ready to teach in editable PowerPoint.
What your classes work through
- Energy stores and calculating energy changes. Pupils equate mgh with half mv² for a 0.60 kg ball dropped from 1.8 m and solve for its speed at the ground.
- Specific heat capacity and power. Pupils take two temperatures off a graph for a 0.50 kg aluminium block, find the energy gained and divide by 60 s for power.
- Conservation, dissipation and efficiency. Pupils trace a bouncing ball's energy as some is dissipated to thermal and sound stores, so each rebound is lower.
- National and global energy resources. Pupils give two reasons the UK has swapped much of its coal burning for wind farms over the last twenty years.
- Reducing unwanted energy transfers. Pupils explain, in terms of energy transfer, why filling the gap inside a house's outside walls with foam will reduce the heating bill.
The 1 required practical
- RP14 Specific Heat Capacity. Pupils calculate the specific heat capacity of iron from the energy supplied to a 0.8 kg block and its 25 °C temperature rise.
Who it is for
Use it for GCSE Combined Science Trilogy P1 Energy, covering energy stores, specific heat capacity, power, conservation, efficiency, insulation and national and global energy resources. It also suits Combined Science Physics revision in Year 10 and Year 11 and includes the specific heat capacity required practical.
How each lesson runs
Each P1 Energy lesson starts with a Do Now that recalls earlier learning, with the answers on the next slide. It then moves through I Do, We Do and You Do, with a model answer after each task. It finishes with the AQA-style question listed above, its mark scheme and an exit ticket. A specification slide names the AQA points the lesson covers, so you can check it against your scheme of work.
Topic test
The P1 Energy topic test covers the whole unit with AQA-style questions and comes with its mark scheme, both in Word and PDF.
