AQA GCSE Physics P1 Energy | 6 Lesson Presentations and Topic Test
AQA GCSE Physics P1 Energy: 6 lessons ready to teach, with a topic test
You get every lesson for AQA GCSE Physics P1 Energy, planned and ready to teach. There are 4 teaching lessons and the 2 required practicals as full lessons. Each one is editable PowerPoint and matched to the AQA 8463 specification.
What your classes work through
- Energy stores and calculating energy changes. Pupils calculate the speed of a falling ball just before it hits the ground by linking its gravitational potential store to its kinetic store.
- Specific heat capacity and power. Pupils read temperatures from a heating graph for an aluminium block, then work out the average power supplied using specific heat capacity.
- Conservation, dissipation and efficiency. Pupils explain, in terms of energy transfers, why each bounce of a dropped rubber ball reaches a lower height than the one before.
- National and global energy resources. Pupils describe the UK move towards more wind farms and less coal, then explain two reasons for the change.
The 2 required practicals
- RP1 Specific Heat Capacity. Pupils use the energy supplied, mass and temperature rise of a heated iron block to calculate the specific heat capacity of iron.
- RP2 Thermal Insulation. Pupils compare cooling curves for an insulated and an uninsulated container and read the bubble wrap temperature after 10 minutes.
Who it is for
Use it to teach AQA GCSE Physics P1 Energy lessons in Year 10 and Year 11, covering energy stores, specific heat capacity, power, efficiency and national energy resources. It also works for GCSE Physics revision and includes the specific heat capacity and thermal insulation required practicals.
How each lesson runs
Each P1 Energy lesson starts with a Do Now that recalls earlier learning, with the answers on the next slide. It then moves through I Do, We Do and You Do, with a model answer after each task. It finishes with the AQA-style question listed above, its mark scheme and an exit ticket. A specification slide names the AQA points the lesson covers, so you can check it against your scheme of work.
Topic test
The P1 Energy topic test covers the whole unit with AQA-style questions and comes with its mark scheme, both in Word and PDF.
