Bioenergetics Lessons PowerPoint | AQA GCSE Combined Science Biology B4, 7 Lessons
AQA GCSE Combined Science Biology B4 Bioenergetics: 7 lessons ready to teach, with a topic test
This is the Combined Science Trilogy version of B4 Bioenergetics, matched to the AQA 8464 specification. You get 6 teaching lessons and the 1 required practical as full lessons, all planned and ready to teach in editable PowerPoint.
What your classes work through
- The photosynthesis reaction. Pupils fill a two-column table for a plant moved from bright light into darkness and link the change to the energy photosynthesis needs.
- Rate of photosynthesis and limiting factors. Pupils draw lines linking three photosynthesis terms, including limiting factor, to the description that fits each one.
- Uses of glucose from photosynthesis. Pupils use a table of starch mass in a leaf kept in the light to predict the value after 8 hours and justify it.
- Aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Pupils set out why glucose broken down fully with oxygen releases far more energy than its incomplete breakdown without oxygen.
- Response to exercise. Pupils link a 400 m sprinter's aching legs to anaerobic respiration, lactic acid and an oxygen debt building up in the muscles.
- Metabolism. Pupils test a gym user's belief that metabolism only builds molecules, using the breakdown of excess protein to judge it.
The 1 required practical
- RP5 Light Intensity and Photosynthesis. Pupils divide a pondweed bubble count by the time taken to give a photosynthesis rate in bubbles per minute.
Who it is for
Use it to teach B4 Bioenergetics in GCSE Combined Science Trilogy: photosynthesis, limiting factors, uses of glucose, aerobic and anaerobic respiration, exercise and metabolism. It also supports Combined Science Biology revision in Year 10 and Year 11 and includes the light intensity required practical.
How each lesson runs
Each B4 Bioenergetics lesson starts with a Do Now that recalls earlier learning, with the answers on the next slide. It then moves through I Do, We Do and You Do, with a model answer after each task. It finishes with the AQA-style question listed above, its mark scheme and an exit ticket. A specification slide names the AQA points the lesson covers, so you can check it against your scheme of work.
Topic test
The B4 Bioenergetics topic test covers the whole unit with AQA-style questions and comes with its mark scheme, both in Word and PDF.
