What your classes work through
- Magnetic poles, forces and induced magnets. Pupils read a graph of repulsive force between two north poles and calculate the mean rate at which the force decreases with separation.
- Magnetic Fields. Pupils explain why a plotting compass points north with no magnets nearby and why this is evidence for a magnetic core.
- Electromagnetism: Fields From Currents. Pupils match the field around a straight wire, the field inside a solenoid and the effect of an iron core to their descriptions.
- The Motor Effect and Electric Motors. Pupils rearrange F = B I l to calculate the magnetic flux density acting on a current-carrying wire.
- The generator effect. Pupils use an alternator output graph to find the peak potential difference and period, then calculate the frequency.
- Transformers. Pupils explain why a transformer connected to a battery produces no potential difference across its secondary coil.
